Blackwelder prevails in playoff...

The Greenville County Amateur wrapped up a great weekend at Greer Golf with 144 players in exciting fashion as two new champions were crowned. In the championship division a total of seven different players were either tied or had the outright lead at some point on the back nine, including former champs Garland Ferrell, Cole Patterson, Jeremy Revis & Matt Wills. But in the end Ferrell, Connor Blackwelder & Andy Mitchell ended up tied at 8 under par. Ferrell & Mitchell birdied 18 to get there, while Blackwelder's 10 footer slid under the hole. The three went back to 18 and Ferrell found the bunker & Blackwelder & Mitchell continued to #1. A pair of pars sent them to #5, where Blackwelder tapped in a short par putt to claim the Leon Gravley Cup.

In the senior division, Greg Moore saw his five shot lead disappear early as Todd Hendley forged a tie. Moore however got back to his stellar play as he went three under from there to win by four strokes over Hendley. Jose Alvarez & Ron Clontz tied for third.

The chase for the Leon Gravley Memorial Cup has heated up following Saturday's second round as four golfers are within three strokes of leader Cole Patterson.

Greg Moore continues to have a stronghold on the lead in the Senior Amateur after shooting 64-68 the first two rounds. Todd Hendley and Jose Alvarez closed to within striking distance following 2nd round 67s.

Cole Patterson (-7) leads after the first round of the 2024 Greenville County Amateur. A Greenville County Amateur record setting 27 on his final nine hole (front nine) propelled him to a 2 stroke lead over 3 other golfers in the Championship Division. Greg Moore (-8) comes out firing on his front nine to finish with a 64. He holds a 3 stroke lead over Ron Clontz in the Senior Amateur Championship. Second round tees times begin at 8am on Saturday morning.
